Rehearsals, singing, world tours, with family time might seem too strenuous as someone ages, but Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda proves otherwise.
With an upcoming album, world tour, and a newly-launched online community for musicians, Pineda shared he has never felt better, even on the onset of his 50th birthday.
“Mas malakas ako ngayon eh. Mas malakas yung feeling ko dahil nga sa mga yung pinagsasama ko yung advice sa ‘kin ng doctor,” he shared while on his checkup at PhilCare clinic in Makati City.
(I’m stronger now. I feel stronger because of the doctor’s advice and alternative medicine.)
The singer-songwriter highlighted how important checkups are, especially as someone reaches farther in the age spectrum.
He makes sure, however, to partner these with his own home remedies like food he once refused as daily companions.
“[I also drink] herbals, yung turmeric, guyabano tea, (and) fruits na kinakain ko. Tapos siguro at least mga once or twice a week lang yung mga meat, more on vegetables and fish ako,” he shared.
(Regular checkups are very important, of course. I also drink herbals, turmeric, guyabano tea, and I eat fruits. I only eat meat once or twice a week now, I’m more on vegetables and fish.)
His now youthful stamina was not always a part of his party. Pineda said he had to break his dark history with alcohol and drugs before fully embracing this new lifestyle.
Before reaching the peak of his singing career, he once depended on drugs and alcohol as a struggling musician.
However, he turned over a new leaf after his wife, Cherry Pineda, packed her bags and threatened to leave him.
“Durugista nga ako noon at lakas natin maglasing. […] Sinasabi ko to sayo ngayon kasi di na ko nahihiya kasi na-survive ko siya,” he shared.
(I was a drug addict and alcoholic then. I’m saying this to you now because I’m not ashamed of it anymore because I survived it.)
Banking on his realizations, he advised youngsters on the no win situation in drugs and alcohol, especially if one has dreams and aspirations.
If not for this change, he said his now successful career and future ventures including Taratogs won’t even exist as ideas. Moreover, everything should start in a good state of physical and mental health.
“I want to enjoy the company of my [loved ones] for as long as I can. And what’s the sense of being successful and being ano comfortable in the stage of your life if you’re not healthy, right?” he ended.
