Organic vs. Conventional Foods: Is there a Difference?

Being mindful about the types of food you consume can make a huge difference in your health and lifestyle. This supports the steady rise of interest in organic food products over recent years.

Researchers from Newcastle University in England have added fuel to the debate whether organic foods are really healthier over conventional foods.
Based from existing studies differentiating the two, experts have reassessed and performed meta-analysis on 343 peer-reviewed scientific studies to further analyze if organic foods actually contain greater nutrients.

According to an article by Live Free Live Natural, an online fact-sharing site, here are some significant findings that scientists discovered upon conducting the meta-analyses:

1. Organically grown produce is rich in antioxidant. Compared to conventionally grown produce, organic foods are richer in antioxidants, which help flush out toxins from the body, shielding it from cancer and other diseases.

2. Good for the body, better for your pocket. Foods containing more nutrition suggest that the body would require less serving per meal. Consumers can spend about the same price if not less with organics.

3. Low health risk with low level of pesticides. Crops harvested from conventionally managed fields contain pesticides residues, the levels are usually 10 to 100 times lowered in organic.

4. You get the less heavy metal. Organic produce has lower levels of cadmium and nitrogen, both of which are harmful to human health and can damage vital organs.

There are many other differences between organic and conventional farming, but these are the most spoken of with regards to consumer health. The differences may stem directly from the farming methods that were used during the food’s production.
Now that you have an idea of its health benefits, switching to organic food is an easy step. Food sterilizers available in the market today can bring out the best nutrients of produce by converting food to organic, which saves time and money when compared to buying from organic markets. It also removes toxic residues in air and water and keeps the freshness of fruits and vegetables.
